Hunger is prevalent for seniors throughout the United States. Many don’t know where their next meal will come from, many don’t have the mobility or the income. Do you have any idea what the statistics are for hunger among senior citizens? If you live in Mississippi, your state is ranked no. 1 for risk of older adult hunger. My state of New Jersey is ranked no. 37. California is ranked no. 13…not so lucky are they! Find your states ranking HERE.

Quilts Needed for Hospitalized Children

Quilts for Kids helps seriously ill and abused children

Homemade Quilts Help Bring Smiles

Quilts for Kids helps seriously ill and abused childrenWhat began as a quest to help the environment by preventing discarded fabric pieces from becoming landfill has evolved into an international organization providing handmade quilts and blankets for seriously ill and abused children in need of comfort.

Before the majority of textile industry outsourced fabric mills to other countries in 2007, Quilts for Kids was able to receive donations and discounts from fabric companies to acquire discontinued fabrics so that volunteer quilters could provide a touch of comfort to sick and abused children in hospitals across the United States.

Today, founder Linda Arye and her organization rely mostly on donations and the kindness of volunteers to provide the quilts to be sent to hospitalized children to brighten their stay and bring a smile to their face. Their Mission Statement simply explains their goal: Transforming discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse.

How You Can Help Quilts for Kids

P&G AND DOWNY have partnered in support of Quilts for Kids with the Downy Touch of Comfort Program that enabled Quilts for Kids to create over 10,000 quilt kits to send to quilters across the country, helping to turn tears into smiles in many more children.

Visit Downy’s Touch of Comfort on Facebook where you can download a quilt pattern, make a donation, and/or leave a message for a hospitalized child in need of some cheering up. (I suggest you encourage your children or grandchildren to take the time to send a note of kindness…and have them ask their classmates and friends to also do the same.)

On Quilts for Kids’ help page, you can find out how to order a quilt kit so you may create a machine-sewn quilt to donate to a hospital, donate fabric, join a local chapter, adopt a quilt, or spread the word such as I am doing - and I hope you will too!

Thank you for helping!
