Give Locally Helps Families in Need

Many families and non-profit organizations are in need of help, more so this time of year when money is scarce to make the holidays special for young children of families in need. I recently discovered a website, GiveLocally.net, that provides an avenue for families in need to request help. Non-profits are also able to post their requests.

GiveLocally.net Helps Families in Need and Non-Profits

The website, with careful screen procedures, allows recipients to reach out to multiple donors who may be able to meet the needs of a family or non-profit organization of choice through individual donations.

Give Locally carefully screens all recipients to ensure their eligible status and authenticity.  There website states:

GiveLocally spends time and effort identifying and screening individual Recipients. Among other measures, GiveLocally interviews each listed Recipient and then obtains and verifies information provided to us. We also obtain referrals from hospitals, doctors and social workers. We strive to ensure the integrity of the information that is reflected on our Site.

GiveLocally seeks, where practical, to deliver Gives to individual Recipients in-kind. For example, this takes the form of gift cards for groceries, payments for rent assistance directly to landlords, and so forth. This is yet another measure GiveLocally utilizes to ensure the integrity of our unique process and to maximize the impact of your Gives for Recipients.

Donation Recipients and Donors Come Together

Recipients are people just like you and me. They have children who must be cared for, but because of illness or loss of employment they are in jeopardy of losing the roof over their heads. Funds donated can also go for school supplies, clothing, food…basic needs we all need to survive.

If you are a family in need who can verify your situation or someone who would like to help by donating a few dollars or more towards a much needed monetary goal, please visit GiveLocally.

INDIANA – Indianapolis: Hi, I did not ask for help this Christmas. I am disabled with many physical conditions and have struggled with Bi-polar and other mental health issues for all of my life. I draw SSDI and also work part time for the mental health center that I worked with the last few years. I am in recovery for my mental health issues but I struggle a lot with my physical issues.

I am a Certified Peer Recover Specialist. So through my work, I get to give back a little of what helped me to reach this point in my recovery. Recovery does not mean the symptoms go away but that you can live a life worth living with them. What I do is teach dialectical behavior skills to people that are considered my peers. We always connect because we share experiences of a simular nature. I also track down forms of assistance for my clients to help with transportation, food, utilities, rent and so on… I try to help get some of these issues taken care of for the people I work with. It is hard to work on mental health issues when you have needs of necessity. Hence, the mental health issues get worse which leads to stress that leads to not wanting to face the world and so on, and so on,.

I struggle more since I came to work because I do have a teenage son and 5 grandchildren. I also do not have the time it takes to look for necessities that I had when I did not work and I did not have a car when I was off work but have to have one now which costs me higher car payments due to poor credit because of living in poverty most of my life.

I can’t tell my life story in this blog but I have struggled and going to work cost me most of the help I was receiving. I have lost three places to live since I began to work and I have to pay only $500.00 a month for rent though that does not include utilities. I can’t lose my car or my house because I will lose my job and be homeless but I can’t give up my job. I have been trying to get on HUD housing for over 10 years and the list is always closed or the waiting lists are two or three years long and sometimes due to where and who I work with I find that places that are supposed to be following their wait lists only with no priorities, rent to people that are only on the list a few months and for the exact same apartments, I am on the list for. Sorry, I should not complain. So, helping the people I do is the only thing that keeps me moving most days.

Anyway, I had thought things would get better. And how was supposed to ask one of the people I help to be left out because I was on the list. Now, I find myself just days before Christmas, with no family besides my son and grand kids, no presents-this is not the main problem, that is not what Christmas is about for me, having to choose between my home or car to keep, and not having any money to eat at all let alone cook Christmas dinner for my son and grandkids.

And now with no others option I asked if anyone could help with food or help pay my most pressing bills, so I will have my job and my home come New Years.

I have faith in God and I am almost ashamed to ask but I do need help but maybe I waited too long to realize that.

    Thank you for listening
May God bless all of you and
    Have a Merry Christmas.

    Tammy

I’v been trying for two years to have my familot adopted for christmas. I’m not sure if what Im typing will get to the correct site.LOL I have 5 children, one of whom is 18 and in college. 16,15,11,& 8yrs.old I have been out of work since december of 2009. Im a certified nursing assistant. My mother was staying with me on one of her LOA’s. she is a resident of Spring Grove Mental hospital. I have enrolled In college along side of my daughter, to further my career to a Mortician. My daughter Dekeira is going for Registerd Nursing, and Fashion design. I have 9months of bills backed up on us. I will not be able to provide a christmas this year becaus Of a $700.00 water bill that has accumalated over the past year from faulty plumbing. I have a shut-off notice. My car note is late, the house phone and internet is shut-off. my bg&e is $4,000!!!! and yet we are still managing by the grace of god. my baby boys Dorian and Darrian, 11 & 8, are my main cause of concern. My older kids are a bit understanding and have talked it over with me, that they would wait later on for any x-mas gifts. I could talk all day about my problems if you want to hear them, but Please could you help us or refer us to other agencies that can provide a meal and gifts for my children..I dont want nothing for me, just to see my kids a little happy on x-mas. Thank you I live in Middle River Md. 21220.
