Recycled hearing aids can give the gift of hearing to families in need. Hearing loss puts added financial stress on families in need and affects the quality of life for all family members. Communication is difficult in daily living activities and the joy in family events can be diminished. Hearing loss can affect relationships, too. Because of Starkey Hearing Foundation’s, Hear Now program, thousands of American families in need will have an extra reason to be thankful this season of giving. Hear Now provides low income adults and children with the gift of hearing by providing hearing aids throughout the U.S. Through the Hear Now program, Starkey Hearing Foundation is set to distribute more than 8,500 hearing aids by the end of 2012 and more than 1,600 this holiday season alone to families in need.

Do you know that one in 10 Americans, and one in five American teens, experiences some form of hearing loss during their lifetime? Starkey Hearing Foundation’s application-based program, in partnership with more than 5,000 hearing providers in the U.S., gives top-of-the-line, digital hearing aids to children and adults, helping families in need without the financial means necessary to purchase them, that are customized to their specific needs. In-turn, Hear Now providers help fit patients, provide counsel and handle follow-up care at no additional cost.

The recycled  are hearing aids salvaged for parts and used to build new aids that are distributed during Starkey Hearing Foundation’s global hearing missions. The Foundation fits more than 100,000 hearing aids each year and has provided hearing care in more than 100 countries.

“It is incredibly rewarding to give members of families in need the ability to hear,” said Hear Now provider, Dr. Jana Brown of Allegany Hearing & Balance in LaVale, MD. “I live in a rural area, where there are many families in need with no means to purchase these devices. Giving back to the people in my community is something as a health care provider, and human being, I feel is extremely important and thank Starkey Hearing Foundation for making it possible.”

Starkey Hearing Foundation continues to welcome hearing professionals to the Hear Now family of providers, adding 700 providers alone in 2012. “Without the generous support of our thousands of providers, Hear Now would not be the success it is today,” said Bill Austin, founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation. “Through the Hear Now program we are able to reconnect individuals to their families and communities each and every day, which is all the more special during the holiday season.”
